Automaker Volkswagen launched its award-winning car, Tiguan, in India, marking its entry into the SUV segment.
The Tiguan is being offered at Rs27.68 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai), in two trims – Comfortline and Highline – and in five colours – Tungsten Silver, Oryx White, Deep Black, Indium Grey and Atlantic Blue.
The Tiguan was first introduced in Europe in 2007 and the car established itself as a bestseller. It went on to claim the title of Europe’s safest car.
The Tiguan comes with features like hill start assist, self-sealing tyres, cruise control, and rain and light sensors. It features the 4MOTION all-wheel drive system with torque transfer to the rear wheels, which makes it convenient to drive on all types of surfaces.
The vehicle gives the impression of being built for safety and comes equipped with six airbags and an ‘active hood’ for pedestrian safety. It has special deformation elements on the front bumper, with maximum possible distance between bonnet and engine. Further, its deformable wings, are an attempt to ensure that other road users and pedestrians are exposed to as little danger as possible.
The Tiguan comes with a 2.0L TDI engine mated to a 7-speed automatic DSG transmission that offers a fuel efficiency of 17.06 kmpl.
The car will roll out from the German automaker’s Aurangabad, Maharashtra, facility.
The Comfortline comes with features including 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlamps and DRL, electrically-adjustable heated front seats, cruise control and paddle shifters. The Highline variant offers larger 18-inch alloy wheels, panoramic sunroof and a reverse parking camera.
The Tiguan is being offered in its standard five-seat version – which the Indian public was shown at Auto Expo last year.
According to commentators, the Tiguan would take on the likes of the Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner and the recently launched Isuzu MU-X SUV.
