Reliance Jio Infocomm is planning to enter into automobile telematics with the launch of a device that will control vehicle’s movement and alert owner about fuel and battery via a mobile app.
The company is ready with a car connected device that will have multiple features such as immobilise car at the time of a theft, alert owner about any movement of the car, locate your car and provide wi-fi.
Sources say that the company is in advanced discussion with automobile companies to launch it very soon.
With various factors which will determine the price of the device, the estimated cost is expected to be either equal to or less than Jio’s mi-fi device which costs around Rs 2,000.
The Reliance Jio’s car management device, the car owner will get information about the way his driver is driving the car, the movement of vehicle can be restricted within a geography, switch on AC, get alerts about car breakdown etc.
The company is also working on modalities on its sales model for existing cars as well. The device has been internally developed by Reliance Jio, though the hardware is being initially imported from China.
After the initial roll-out, the company will start making it in India. The owner of the car needs to use Jio’s sim card in the device to avail the benefits.
