Prabhas, who has refused endorsements worth Rs.18 crore during his five-year stint with ‘Bahubali’ franchises, finally agreed to be smartphone Gionee brand ambassador and join the co-stars such as Virat Kohli, Alia Bhatt, Shruti Haasan, Dulquer Salmaan and Diljit Dosanjh.
“We are extremely proud to announce our association with the mighty Prabhas. We are positive that our association with Prabhas will further our proposition of stronger batteries and better selfies,” Gionee India Country Head and CEO Arvind R Vohra said.
Gionee, a Chinese smartphone manufacturer based in Shenzhen, Guangdong, is one of China’s largest mobile phone manufacturers though in India its presence and market share is still marginal.
In Fiscal Year 2016-17, it was able to corner just 6% of market share and is way behind the other Chinese mobile manufacturers including Oppo, Vivo, Lenovo and Xiaomi, which have occupied the No 2 to No 5 spots with Korean maker Samsung leading them at No.1 spot.
Currently, gionee sells smartphones in the range of Rs 8,000 to Rs 25,000, and aims to double the sales figure by the end of this fiscal. It remains to be seen whether Prabhas joining the brand would help them join the big 5 league soon.
Now that the unprecedented success of Baahubali franchise paid off earning more than Rs.1,600 crore, he is relaxing to act in his next film ‘Sahoo’, which he had accepted much before.
