The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has been efficacious in demarcation of teachers with the help of their Aadhaar number, religion, mobile number and caste. So far, 60 per cent of teachers’ data has been demarcated with which the MHRD will set up a National Teachers’ Portal.
For setting up the format, the MHRD introduced new Teacher Information Format (TIF). The TIF has been used for an All India Survey on Higher Education for the year 2016-17. The format will help the HRD ministry to keep the teachers’ data on the National Teachers’ Portal.
HRD Ministry hit upon the idea to nab the fake teachers in universities and colleges across the country. R. Subramanian, Additional Secretary MHRD pointed that most of the colleges and institutes show up ghost teachers while these institutes neither have a regular faculty nor qualified teaching staff.
Consequently, if the teachers’ data is profiled by using the Aadhaar number, it will be very easy to avoid the duplication or fraudulent activities, he added.
In the last five years, all the colleges and universities provided generic and basic data on their teaching staff. The data included designation, selection mode, religion, category and gender. However, the government planned to include the personal details of teachers of different universities and colleges this year. The first and the most significant step that has been taken by the HRD ministry is to regulate duplication.
Speaking about the privacy of teachers’ details, Additional Secretary of MHRD assured that the data would be safe with the National Informatics Centre (NIC). On the other hand, the website will not be open to the public that could display any personal information of teachers.
