Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said, in order to improve the education standard in the country at school level, government is ready to introduce some major changes. On the matter of detaining students in the same class the Minister said that students will be given two chances to show their progress through the exams; one being in the month of March and second in the month of June.
“If he/she fails there, he/she will be detained in the same class,” he said.
About the second change he told that board exams have been mad mandatory again.
Speaking further on the decision of detainment he said “We have taken a very important decision and we will take a call on it this month.”
“We had a meeting of education ministers from all the states, wherein those from 25 states lamented that they were finding it difficult to improve the quality of education without examinations. On their demand, we unanimously decided that the right to decide on detention will be left to the states and it will be done anytime soon” Javdekar said.
He further told that NCERT textbooks have not been revised in a decade and has invited suggestions from teachers, parents and all other stakeholder for improving the books and to add more valuable content.
