We have taken the decision to develop six smart cities after weighing in all the parameters prescribed by the Centre for smart cities, says Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis
The state government has decided to launch six smart cities, financed and executed entirely by the state government.
The state government had submitted a proposal for 10 Smart Cities to the Centre last year. However, in the first phase, Pune and Solapur made it to a list of 20 cities chosen from across the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is arriving in Pune on Saturday to launch the Smart Cities project.
But the state government believes it cannot keep the development of other eight cities on the back-burner. As the second and the third phase of Centre’s project will gradually would require some time, the state plans to evolve its own model for smart cities.
