Mumbai, 19 September 2017/Team Estrade//– Towards ensuring top-notch quality and combating counterfeiting of products under its brand, JSW Steel, the flagship company of diversified Indian conglomerate, JSW Group, recently raided two steel retailers with the support of authorities in Bikaner, Rajasthan.
JSW Steel is widely known for its reputation as an ethical company based on innovation and high quality products.
The raid was conducted by the local police from Naya Sahar Police Station, Bikaner. It had been brought to the company’s attention that retailers of Kisan Iron Tiber Store and Praveen Timber & Iron Store in Bikaner had been selling unauthorised, poor quality, counterfeit products by infringing the name and logo of “JSW” (which is a registered trademark belonging to JSW Group) thereby passing off their spurious goods/products causing damage to the company’s brand and eroding its long-established well-known trademark and reputation, goodwill and trust developed amongst its customers in India and overseas as well.
The police officials confiscated and duly sealed counterfeit steel sheets during the civil raid. These low quality counterfeit sheets were recovered at Kisan Iron Timber Store, an establishment of Mohammad Ismail Khatik and also at Praveen Timber & Iron Store, an establishment of Deepak Agrawal and Bhagwan Agrawal.
Piracy/passing off, infringement of trademark and counterfeiting are serious issues and JSW Group unceasingly takes every effort towards resolving the same. Counterfeiting isn’t merely an issue of theft and unfair damage to the competitive playing field but also a major safety concern. The damage could be severe and lead to loss of precious lives and material based on the final application of these counterfeit products.
In the recent past, JSW Group has also raided other retailers who have been involved in activities related to counterfeiting and malpractices of steel products. Counterfeiting and piracy are a threat to every industry sector around the world and India is no exception. Such malpractices have serious implication on economic health and safety of the industry and individual customers.
Jayant Acharya, Director – Commercial & Marketing, JSW Steel said, “Counterfeit products don’t merely damage the brand but create doubt in the minds of customers. This leads to customers hesitating to make purchases and not being confident about quality delivered thereby creating uncertainty in the market. Such uncertainty can affect the industry and hurt the economy in terms of market growth. In addition, these unethical practices can lead to loss of lives and property. Therefore, we firmly remain committed to fight such unscrupulous activities with all the might at our disposal.”
“We owe our existence to customers and remain committed to making certain that only the highest quality of products reach them. A marketplace devoid of counterfeit products is in the best interest of all stakeholders, especially customers. Towards achieving this objective, we shall work with all stakeholders, including law enforcement agencies and thwart these unlawful activities, Acharya added.”
