Instagram rolls out a Discover People page on the Web for all users

Facebook-owned photo-sharing app Instagram has another addition to the homepage in its web version: a little compass icon that takes you to a new page where you can “discover” other users. The new button is located near the top-right corner of the window when you’re viewing Instagram.com in the browser.

Just to the right of the new Explore icon is the notifications tab, which Instagram rolled out on the Web earlier this week.

The Discover People update went out to all users yesterday, an Instagram spokesperson told VentureBeat in an email. Discover People has been available on Instagram’s mobile web app, and now it’s live across all of the Web, the spokesperson wrote. (Hat tip to PetaPixel for reporting on the change.)

When you click the new icon, you’ll see a bunch of people you can follow, along with three of each user’s most recent photos.

This enhancement to Instagram on the Web is more proof that Instagram thinks desktop shouldn’t be completely ignored. It’s still a thin client in the sense that you can’t post new images from the Web — you can only do that from a mobile device — but it is a bit more feature-rich than it was last week.
