Mega telecom service provider Idea Cellular, launched its 4G LTE services in Dimapur during a launching programme held at hotel Acacia, Dimapur, Tuesday (Mar 8).
Speaking to media persons ahead of the launching ceremony, Idea Cellular, COO (corporate)-P Lakshiminarayana said the company had rapidly rolled out its high-speed 4G LTE network since December 2015 to cover nine major markets in India to meet its target to cover 750 cities across 10 telecom circles by June this year.
He said Idea Cellular currently holds 1800 Mhz 4G spectrum in the 10 Telecom circles which covers 50 percent of telecom market but over 60 percent of Idea’s gross revenue.
Disclosing the key features in the 4G services, Idea Cellular chief marketing officer-Sashi Shankar said Idea customers with 4G devices in the towns across the 8 telecom circles would experience superfast speeds by simply upgrading their existing SIM cards to new 4G SIM cards.
Some of the features in the new 4G SIM card included; 4G offerings for the consumers, digital content for 4G consumers, Wide Partfolio of 4G smartphones and devices and launch of responsive 4G website.
Idea Cellular which made its entry into Nagaland as recently as 2009 has been acclaimed as one of the largest and fastest growing telecom operator in India.
With its 4G being launched in Dimapur, the company plans to follow suit with Kohima, Imphal, Tura, Senapati, Agartala, Aizawl and Mokokchung before the end of the current financial year.
Currently the 4G LTE services covers over 300 towns and as promised, the company plans to cover 750 towns.
Idea Cellular chief corporate affairs Rajat Mukhari demonstrated the speed of new 4G LTE by streaming a video trailer of the Fast and Furious 8 from youtube which was done in less than 12 seconds without buffering.
Answering to a question, one of the executive said the company’s focus was more on the consumers’ experience and not on the competition with other companies and in doing so the company had excelled in its short span in the region.
On being asked on the company’s commitment towards curbing the sale of preactivated SIM cards as it was a huge problem for criminal activities, one of the executives said, the company was serious in tackling the menace and that it was working with the law enforcing agencies to penalise and take action on those people caught selling preactivated SIM cards.
Idea Cellular executives informed that it will launch its 4G LTE services in Kohima on Thursday (Mar 10).
