Many in India have long been waiting for Google’s music streaming service to go live in their country and it appears that their wait might be over in the near future. Google Play Music is only available in a handful of markets at this point in time and an expansion to India has never been ruled out so it really won’t be surprising if Google makes an official announcement about this soon.
Some Reddit users have spotted that Google Play Music songs are showing up in Google Search results accompanied by pricing in Indian rupees. They also find that clicking on these search results opens up a partially working web interface for Google Play Music. This can be taken as adequate circumstantial evidence to support the theory that a Google Play Music India launch is on the cards for the near future.
Single song prices range from Rs. 15 (about $0.10) and up to Rs. 175 ($2-3) for an entire album. Though it’s likely that these might be promotional prices and they may be hiked once the service goes live in the country.
Users in India already have access to some local music streaming services like Gaana and Saavn, while Apple Music is also live in the country. Google Play Music will only give music lovers more choice and you can never go wrong with more choice.
