23rd Oct, 2017; New Delhi, India/Team Estrade//– Home to the world’s largest clean cooking gas program, India will host the biennial Clean Cooking Forum 2017 from Oct 24-26. More than 3 billion people worldwide (800 million in India) are dependent on food cooked over open fires or with heavily-polluting solid fuels like wood, charcoal, animal dung, causing widespread impacts to health, climate, women’s empowerment, and the environment. In India and China, household air pollution is responsible for up to 30 percent of outdoor air pollution.
With more than 600 people registered from 57 countries, the Clean Cooking Forum will be the largest gathering on the topic and an opportunity to hear from global voices on the issue, including SEforAll CEO Rachel Kyte and Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves CEO Radha Muthiah, as well as those who are leading India’s efforts on clean cooking, including:
-India Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan
-CEO of NITI Aayog Amitabh Kant
-CEO of SEforAll Rachel Kyte
-CEO of Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves Radha Muthiah
-Infosys Founder Narayana Murthy
-Chef Sanjeev Kapoor
The Forum will also feature three-days of engaging sessions, interactive site visits, an interactive expo featuring the latest in cookstoves and fuels technology, and additional speakers including global business executives, government ministers, and practitioners working in the clean cooking sector.
The Clean Cooking Forum is the landmark event for people around the world working to address the impacts of cooking with solid fuels. Hosting the Clean Cooking Forum in Delhi for the first time is a sign of India’s leadership in fighting household air pollution, and it is also an opportunity for us to help drive this issue forward both in India and around the world.
The Forum will feature an interactive exhibition area where attendees can demo and test some of the latest developments in clean cookstoves and fuels, including innovative technologies that allow consumers to order and pay for cooking gas on their mobile phones. Forum attendees will also be able to see first-hand some of India’s leading clean cooking programs, including a Tata Trusts-supported campaign led by local women entrepreneurs trained to create awareness and facilitate sales of clean cooking solutions. Another site visit, hosted by the Ministry of Petroleum with support from the three main Oil Marketing Companies implementing the government’s PMUY program, includes the opportunity to observe the LPG supply chain through visiting warehousing facilities and meeting local distributors and the families using these connection
“By working to deliver universal access to cleaner cooking fuels, India is taking a significant step toward addressing its air quality issues and improving health, while continuing to serve as an example for other countries working to ensure cooking no longer kills,” said Radha Muthiah, CEO of the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves, which is a co-host of the Clean Cooking Forum, along with Tata Trusts, TERI, CLEAN, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and the Indian Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
