New Delhi: Chinese smartphone brand Gionee today said that it will be spending over Rs 150 crore this year in branding initiatives. Under its ‘Make Smiles’ branding, it will unveil a new logo and its M5 Plus smartphone will be the first to feature it.
Gionee is also the principal sponsor of Kolkata Knight Riders IPL team since 2015. The contract worth Rs 60 crore is for three years. With the new branding initiative, it will focus more on the design and form factor of its upcoming smartphones.
The company is targeting a market share of 7-8% in India this fiscal, a top official of the company’s local arm said. At present, the market share of Gionee is around 5% in the country.
Recently, it had launched its S6 smartphone for Rs 19,999 in an exclusive partnership with Flipkart.
The Gionee S6 features a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display made scratch resistant with a coating of Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on top. The handset comes with hybrid dual sim functionality and runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system topped with the Amigo UI of the company.
The smartphone is powered by a 1.3GHz octa-core MediaTek processor paired with 3GB of RAM. The onboard storage of the device stands at 32GB, which can be expanded up to 128GB using a microSD card.
