Piaggio has finally launched its much-anticipated sports scooter Aprilia SR 150 in India at a price of INR 65,000 (ex-showroom). The scooter is being manufactured locally at the company’s Baramati production facility in Maharashtra. A few dealers in Maharashtra have already started taking bookings for the scooter at a token amount of INR 2,000. The deliveries of the scooter are expected to commence from September next month.
Powering the Aprilia SR 150 is a 154.4cc engine that comes mated to an automatic transmission system. The motor generates a maximum power of 11.39 bhp at 7,000 rpm with a peak torque output of 11.5 Nm at 5,500 rpm. The Aprilia SR 150 has been assisted with a 220mm disc brake up front with a twin-piston calliper while the rear end receives a big 240mm drum brake unit. The scooter rides on 120/70-14” tubeless tyres at both ends that offer a good on-road grip and provide convenience in case of a puncture.
As far as features go, the Aprilia SR 150 gets a USB charging port. The instrument console is quite basic that includes an analogue speedometer and fuel gauge along with the telltale lights. The scooter has a pass-by switch and foldable pillion footpegs as its additional highlights. Although there is no direct rival of the scooter at present, it competes with Activa 125 in terms of pricing and its sibling Vespas in terms of performance.
The Aprilia SR 150 will be sold via Piaggio’s Motoplex outlets in the initial phase. Post that, the scooter will make its regional launch in selected cities. The company had earlier planned to set up a separate network of showrooms for the SR series of scooters but that didn’t seem to be happening at least for now. A few days back, Aprilia SR Motard 125 was spied at a dealership in Ahmedabad which hints that the brand is probably eyeing on the scooter segment in the Indian market.
