Apple supplier Foxconn is developing a glass casing for the iPhone, which is believed to be released in 2017, according to a report in Japanese website Nikkei .
Apple’s new iPhone design is expected to have a glass chassis to boost the slowing demand of Apple’s key products.
Apple, which reported its first decline in iPhone sales in the quarter that ended in March is looking for ways to counter tough competition from its rivals such as South Korea’s Samsung Electronics.
Foxconn, which currently assembles iPhone and provides metal casings for Apple is developing the new glass casing which will be out in 2017, the website reported.
India, world’s third-largest smartphone market after China and US, witnessed a 35 per cent decline in Apple’s market share. Apple shipped 800,000 smartphones in India in Q2 2016, this compares to 1.2 million smartphones it shipped during the same quarter last year, said to a report from Strategy Analytics.
