HYDERABAD, India, October 8, 2018 /PRNewswire/ —
Megha Engineering, a leading infrastructure company in Telugu speaking states, well known for its prestigious projects across the country, has crossed another milestone with its record-breaking performance in establishing electrical sub-stations and transmission lines. The company has proved its mettle and expertise again by completing the work relating to 4 substations and related transmission lines that supply electricity to 3 pumping stations of Link-1 component of prestigious Kaleshwaram project, within the stipulated deadlines. It already has the distinction of establishing and commissioning the largest private sector transmission system (WUPPTCL) in Uttar Pradesh. The company has got national level accolades by getting an award from Power Grid Corporation of India for its superlative performance in completing a mega electricity substation in Kadiri in Andhra Pradesh, also in a record time. The latest performance related to completion of establishing a mega electricity supply system for Link-1 component of Kaleshwaram Project has added another feather in its cap.
Nearly 1120 MW of electricity is required for lifting the water through 28 pumps from 3 pump houses of Link-1 component in Kaleshwaram Project. It is almost equal to lift 2 TMCs of water every day. Such a gigantic lift scheme is nowhere planned in the world with such a huge requirement of electricity. Mubarak Pumping Station in Egypt is being considered as the largest pumping station in the world till now/ it uses 288 MW of electricity and it took nearly seven years to complete the work for establishing related power supply system. Capacity wise, Link-1 of Kaleshwaram Project is 4 times bigger than that system, but Megha Engineering took only one year to complete such huge work demonstrating its engineering efficiency.
Works related to 4 Sub-Stations, Medigadda, Annaram, Sundilla and Package-8 (Ramadugu), along with the transmission lines are completed within the stipulated one and half year time. Works for Ramadugu (Package-8) sub-station were initiated on 22nd February 2017 and it was linked with grid on 6th May 2018. Entire works for this sub-station were completed within a year. Annaram Sub Station works were started on 1st April 2017 and it came into operation on 14th September 2018, with its linkage with grid. Works for Medigadda sub-station were commenced in April 2017 and concluded on 29th September 2018 with its linkage to the main grid. With the completion of all these works, Megha Engineering enabled the continuous supply of electricity from Jaipur (Adilabad) Power Plant to the Medigadda sub-station.
“Government of Telangana has assigned the contract for these works of 4 Sub Stations to Megha Engineering in April 2017. We could complete all the assigned works in record time by bringing these 4 substations into utilization, one by one, during the period of May-September 2018 and this is a record of all sorts,” said Praveen Sharath Deekshith, Vice President, Power Department of MEIL.
It all began with Ramadugu
As part of Kaleshwaram Lift Scheme – Package 8, MEIL has completed the construction of world’s largest underground pumping station in Ramadugu. It has established 400/13.8/11 KV Sub-Station at this pump house for supplying electricity to 7 huge motor pumps, each having a capacity of 139 MW. Along with this sub station, 400 KV QMDC Transmission lines were also laid for a distance of almost 18 KMs.
Sundilla completed within a year
Sundilla connects Link-1 and Link-2. 9 Motor Pumps are established here with a total water pumping capacity of 2 TMCs per day. This pump house requires 360 MW of electricity for running all these 9 motor pumps, for which MEIL has established 400/220/11 KV Sub Station. Apart from supplying electricity to motor pumps in Sundilla Pump House, this sub-station also supply power to 220/11 KV substation at Annaram and 220/11 KV substation at Medigadda.
Annaram Sub-Station
Annaram Pump House consists of 12 Motor Pumps with a total capacity of 480 MW for which a 220/11 KV substation, along with transmission line works were already completed. 220 KV TMDC transmission line was established for a length of 28 Kms connecting 400/220/11 KV substation at Sundilla with 220/11 KV substation at Annaram.
With the completion of Medigadda, all 4 Sub Stations are now available
As the charging process of Medigadda is completed, now all the 4 Sub- Stations of Kaleshwaram Project Link-1 are readily available. Medigadda Pump House has 17 motor pumps with a total capacity of 600 MW. For this, MEIL has established 220/11 KV substation at Medigadda and laid 220 KV TMDC transmission line for 80 Kms to connect this substation with 400/220/11 KV Sundilla Sub Station for ensuring required power supply. As all the Sub Stations in Link-1 are ready, preparations are on for the dry and wet run of motor pumps in respective pump houses for lifting and transporting of Godavari water from Medigadda Barrage to Annaram, Annaram to Sundilla and Sundilla to Sripada Ellampalli Project.
“We could achieve this phenomenal performance due to our long-standing experience and expertize in establishing electrical substations and laying down transmission lines all across the country, coupled with our consistent monitoring to speed up the works so as to complete them within the stipulated time, as decided by the government. It is a unique performance and a rare record for such projects,” said Praveen Sharath Deekshith, Vice President, Power Department of MEIL. He added that never in the past and nowhere, such a task of completing the construction of 4 Sub Stations along with Transmission lines is done within such short duration.
MEIL has a track record of completing these kinds of huge infrastructure projects within the stipulated time frames. It has won many accolades in the past for such performance. It has created a national record by completing 400/220 KV Power Grid at NP Kunta in Ananthapuram District of Andhra Pradesh within a span 7 months for which it got a prestigious award from Power Grid Corporation of India. MEIL has taken up works related to 4 Sub Station in Link-1 and 2 Sub Station works of Link-2 component of Kaleshwaram Project. So far, it has completed construction of all the substation and also charging process of all new transmission lines.
