Sonata, releasing on April 21st is an unapologetic non romantic drama about female camaraderie and unusual friendships where Shabana Azmi, Lillette Dubey & Aparna Sen laugh, cry and verbalise their desires on the screen. The film is an adaptation of Mahesh Elkunchwar’s play, Sonata, which is about the loneliness in the lives of women who aligned themselves with the Women’s movement but 30 years later abandon it and retreat into a private world of reality and fantasy, opting for the conventional lifestyle of marriage and children.
It is between all the drama, emotions and ideologies, Sonata’s trailer gives away plenty of hilarious moments in the Film. From Lillette Dubey swooning over a young male model in a TV commercial to Shabana swaying through life with much reckless abandon, the film seems to have all.

1. Aparna Sen trying Wine for the first time.
Aparna Sen plays a professor and Shabana Azmi and Lillette Dubey coax her to have wine for the very first time in life. Aparna Sen’s reaction when she finds out what the other two were up to is just classic and sure to get you smiling.
2. Shabana Azmi’s swaying through life with abandon and other anecdotes
There is no doubt that Shabana Azmi is a great actor and in this movie she has ample chance to show that once more. There are many anecdotes and one liners in the movie that will make you smile. One such sentence is “She sways through the life with abandon”. It is not so much in the dialogue but how she pulls it off that makes it funny.
3. Lillette Dubey Likes To “Smell of her Man”
Why should boys have all the fun? Lillette Dubey seems to be living by this line in Sonata. In the trailer we find her professing how she loves smell of her man.
4. The “Three Tiers of Crap” Analogy
Shabana Azmi explains us how multi-storey buildings are basically nothing but a series of a pot above another pot. She remarks her living condition as the three tiers of people crapping over each other.
5. The Petting Conundrum
Shabana and Lillete both swooning over young guys and day-dreaming about “thunder thighs” and briefs.
Sonata, Directed by National Award Winner Aparna Sen, will release in select cinemas on 21st April in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Pune and on PVR’s new theatre on-demand initiative — Vakaoo.
