The event will be held in China’s capital Beijing, and due to the TENAA listings we have an idea about how the phones will look like and what they will be packing under the hood. So, here are a few technical specifications.
The Oppo R9 will come with a 5.5-inch screen that will have a pixel resolution of 1920 x 1080, while it’s bigger brother will have a larger 6-inch display with the same Full HD resolution. Both handsets are supposed to be underpinned by an octa-core SoC (though we still don’t know which one will be exactly) and both will feature 4 GB of RAM. The Oppo R9 will pack 32 GB of internal storage space, while the R9 Plus will have 64 GB of on-board storage. Both handsets come with microSD card slots so the native storage can be expanded up 128 GB.
So far so good, but the bad news is the version of Android that the phones will be running out of the box. According to the TENAA documents, the Oppo R9 and R9 Plus will run Android 5.0 Lollipop. Most of the devices launched in 2016 or that are about to be released feature the latest iteration of Google’s OS, so even though things might change, Lollipop on a new smartphone sounds rather disappointing.
Design-wise, the Oppo R9 and R9 Plus are decent looking and they are made out of metal and glass just like most of the phones nowadays. The images that appeared last week show us a device that looks similar to the Samsung handsets, but resembles the iPhone a bit as well.
We will probably find more information regarding the two devices in the coming days, but if we don’t, we will get all the details we need next week when the company will announce the two smartphones.
